MCKENZIE AND CANNON FAMILIES

Thanks to Scott McKenzie and Pam Smith, I now have my McKenzie line back to Chesley who was born in South Carolina between 1770 and 1780. I have found an Absalom KINSEY and a Daniel KINSEY in the 1790 Sampson County, North Carolina Census. I wonder if one of these men could be Chesley\'s father? If so, my MCKENZIE family would be found in NC>SC>GA>TN>AL>MS>AR. Chesley is in the 1810 Pendleton County, SC Census. According to a publication entitled \"Historical Collections of Georgia\", Published 1854 (Page 589-590), Chesley MCKENZIE and Henry CANNON were among the original settlers of Rabun County GA. According to the 1850 Chickasaw County, MS Census, Absalom and his family are living near Alton CANNON. Absalom\'s family in this census includes his wife, Sarah, and children Larkin, Jasper, Eveline, Robert Hugh, Newton, Mary and John. The first time my GGG grandfather, Jasper, shows up as head of household is in the 1860 Calhoun County, MS Census. He is there with his wife Nicy CANNON and son Marion. I cannot locate this family in the 1870 census. In the 1880 census, Marion is head of household in Calhoun County, MS, with his wife Martha YOUNG and children James R., and Alice, along with his sister Arminda and mother Nicy CANNON. Sometime between the 1880 census and the 1900 census, Marion and his family moved to Miller County, Arkansas. In the 1900 Miller County, AR census Marion is living with his wife, Martha, children Ola, Maud, William and Cara (Cora?) and granddaughter Bessie EASLEY. By the time of the 1900 census, Arminda was married to David CALCOTE. Nicy CANNON is living with Arminda and David in this census along with Arminda and David\'s foster daughter, Mary Wright. In the 1910 Miller County, Cleveland Township, AR Census, Marion is living with his wife Martha, grandson Marion M. MCKENZIE, daughter Corrie, daughter Maud FURQUERON, and grandchildren Jasper and Gracy FURQUERON. By the 1920 Miller County, AR census, Marion is living with a different wife, Rachel born in Texas, and granddaughter, Hadgie Amby SHEETS. (Hadgie is my grandmother and daughter of John Flint and Ola MCKENZIE SHEETS). My great grandmother, Ola MCKENZIE SHEETS, was married on the same day as her sister, Maud MCKENZIE FURQUERON, 01 Sep 1904. I wonder if Maud could be the woman on the right in the picture above? Ola MCKENZIE and John Flint SHEETS had three children; Dessie, John and Hadgie. Dessie died from Malarial Hepatitis at the age of 10 in 1915. I wonder if Ola may have died by this time since the person that gave Dessie\'s death certificate information was Marion, her grandfather?. There is an M.M. MCKENZIE, 63, that married a R.C. TAYLOR, 39, on 15 Jul 1918 in Miller County AR. I wonder if this could be my GG grandfather Marion M. and his new wife Rachel? I found this information on the Miller County AR genealogy site of Wayne ADCOCK. I now think this is Marion and his new wife Rachel. I recently put a few things together to make this assumption. I have a photo that I found in my grandmother\'s things. It is of a woman with the writing \"Henrietta Taylor\" on the back. I don\'t know for sure who Henrietta is, but it is possible she is the daughter of Rachel? In June 2008 - Ron and I just took a trip to Fouke Arkansas. Mr. Frank McFerrin was kind enough to open the Fouke Museum while we were there. He has done an excellent job and it was very interesting. We later met with the lovely and gracious Ova EATON and her very nice nephew David THOMAS. Ova is the daughter of Mary Wright who was the foster child of David and Arminda MCKENIZE CALCOTE. Ova recounted what it was like growing up in rural Arkansas and knowing my grandmother, Hadgie SHEETS BRANTLEY PARKER. Although I did not find the graves of John and Ola MCKENZIE SHEETS and their daughter Dessie SHEETS, it was a pleasure and honor to be able to meet Ova and David. I found Aunt Maude and her family in the Rocky Mound Cemetery in Fouke.
